Having acted as a consultant for a major oil company for a significant part of my career, it has become second nature for me to consider Health and Safety in all my design work and during the site construction phase. My focus is always to reduce risks wherever possible for the tradesmen engaged in the work. I am also mindful of the implications my design decisions may have on the end users of the building.
Over recent years legislation has required all designers to evaluate their designs and document their actions with appropriate paperwork. Although domestic projects for private clients are exempt some of the formal documentation, I still consider that all building projects for which I am responsible must at no time present unavoidable risks to either the contractors or the occupants. |
